Orphanage Support Services Organization (OSSO) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable organization founded in 1998, and we’ve been supporting orphanages in Ecuador since that time. We provide support to over 10 orphanages in Ecuador, one of them being our own orphanage "Los Pequeñitos de OSSO" (OSSO’s Little Ones). OSSO also has an affiliate organization within Ecuador called OSSO-Ecuador that is a legal nonprofit there.
Through generous donors, OSSO is the sole source of financial support for two of the orphanages and provides varying levels of financial support in the others, including a lot of donated supplies, but needs are constant and prices are rising, and we're always in need more generous donors (individuals, families and companies). (In the past, we have provided small amounts of help in Africa, Mexico and Vietnam.)
In addition to financial support and consulting, OSSO provides opportunities for North American volunteers to work in orphanages in Cuenca and Quito, Ecuador. OSSO began in Cuenca, and we’ve had volunteers there year-round since May 1999 and in Quito year-round since March 2001. From 1999 to the end of 2007, OSSO has helped around 2,000 North Americans travel to Ecuador to serve in the orphanages, and every year, OSSO volunteers give about 100,000 hours of service in direct contact to the children in the orphanages.
